270 WSM, Varget and 140 Hornandy BTSP
« on: September 02, 2005, 05:23:59 PM »
I just picked up a Sako in this cal today and was looking to see if anybody was handloading for this setup?  All the guns I've been reloading for used Varget, and well, thats what I have on hand right now.

Thanks

I didnt have any luck with Varget in 270 its a little fast for all but light bullets either the velocity was off or the accuracy wasnt good. Try H1000 or H414. I use 70 gr of H1000 for 3186 fps in my A-bolt ( a 140 gr. interlock)

Varget really isn't too usefull for what you want.

130 grain, maybe up to 135 grain is about the heaviest I would go using Varget.

So, you have three choices:

1) Use a 130 grain bullet;
Varget From 49.8 grains to 54.4 grains
 Winchester LRM Primer

2) Us a different powder;
RL-22 From 60.0 grains to 66.0 grains
 Winchester LRM Primer

3) Go ahead and use the Varget and the 140 and take your chances...
