Curious as to the strength of the 1894 action and is capability of handling the heavy .45 Colt loads.

I have a 94 in 45 Colt and I use heavy (Ruger Blackhawk) type loads in it without problem. The 94 is also chambered in 44 magnum. Heavy 45 Colt loads develop less pressure than 44 Magnum loads.

thank you! I like the 45colt much better. Besides the mighty .44 is really a .429 magnum. :wink:

I just placed a slightly used 1894CBC on layaway at my local shop. The sole intention is a companion to my Superblack Hawk Hunter in 45 Colt. My current hunting load is a Penn Bullet 270gr Thunderhead over 25.0gr H110. I honestly haven't fired this cartidge yet as I just received the bullets last week and looking for range time this weekend.

When you look at reloading data, they specify the "heavy loads" for Ruger, T/C, Fredom Arms.....no mention of rifles like Marlin 1894 and Winchester 94.

The used 1894 CBC was a great find as it's priced equal to a basic Winchester 94 and less than Marlin 1894.

I have been shooting heavy 45 COLT loads thru my Rugers and Marlins for years now.
My load is 300 Speer and win 296 powder, 23-24 grns if I can remember. When I find a load I load a large amount of that recipe and It was years ago I found this one!! I could load it hotter, but this load is accurate and sefe in my guns.
It chronographs 1200fps from the 7.5" Ruger ands almost 1700fps from the 20" 1894 and 1500fps in the 16.5" 1894 Marlin Limited!!

Its accounted for a bunch of deer and half a dozen pigs as well. I cannot remember one the bullet remained inside the animal.
