Think I'll sell my 20ga. in an effort to K.I.S.S.
« on: September 04, 2005, 06:40:49 AM »
I'm kickin' around the idea of sellin'/tradin' in my Remington Express 20ga. and picking up another 12ga. so I'll just have to stock one shotgun ammo. I've got a Mossberg 590a1/18'bbl and an old single shot that my dad left me when he died, both 12ga. I'd like to get something to hunt with in 12ga., thinking about a Mossberg Turkey gun with something on the order of a 22"-24" bbl or maybe something in a semi-auto to help keep recoil down. What do some of ya'll think would be a logical choice to match up with the two 12's that I already have?  Talk to ya'll later.  In Frith.

Personally I would be hard pressed not to have a 20 around. I guess it depends on your hunting/shooting.  The 20 is just too much fun for upland hunting that I could never do without mine.  My 16 has a home forever too!

I thinking if I go with a Mossberg 9200 or one of the newer 930(don't need a 3.5" Mag so the 935 is out and I want to shoot slugs in the same barrel so that's another reason.) that I'd get just about as light of a recoil and I'd just have to stock up on 12ga. ammo and not have to worry about 20ga stuff.  I really think a decent 12ga autoloader is the way that I'd like to go. In Frith.

TN - from a practical standpoint, owning all 12 gauges has some merit though you'll still likely need different loads for deer, waterfowl, trap, turkey, and upland game so the net gain may not be what you hoped for. Many of us like different firearms and shooting them, so one or more of each in 12, 16, 20, 28, 410 is rather appealing. Plus a couple extra boxes of 20 gauge shells is not a big deal.

Also consider getting your Mrs/Significant other/kids (if applicable) in the sport to spend time outdoors. For new shooters a 20 is easier to manage than a 12 gauge.

A little 20ga is a great gun to have---I own 2----but then again I have 5 12ga's too.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM MOSSBERG AUTOLOADERS----they have such a poor track record that Mossberg scraps the entire line and comes up with a new one in an effort to gain sales every couple years.

Other manufacturors change too---but its more of an evolution than a complete scraping of the line like Mossberg does. They just can't seem to get an auto thats right---never have---never will------they need to stick with pumps.

I think I've gotten it figured out.  I'm going to go with Benelli Nova shotguns in 12ga., one Tactical model ,18.5"bbl,with the Ghost Ring sights and a mag tube extention and one Standard model, matte black with a 26" barrel, that should make a good hunting shotgun.  That'll keep my Tac gun and my hunting gun the same so the controls will be the same.  Of course this means that I'll have to sell my Mossberg 590a1  , but I think the Nova Tac will be just as good for my needs since I don't plan on going to war anytime soon.   Anyway, now to just sell the two that I've got and buy two new ones.   :?
