Wanting to locate Silhouette Shooting in Missouri
« on: September 05, 2005, 09:27:00 AM »
I am New to the Forum as well as being New to Handgun Silhouette shooting.

Is there any Handgun Silhouette Shooting being done in Missouri?

As I live about 60 miles South of St. Louis, I am hoping I can locate a group of Handgun Silhouette shooters in Southeast Missouri.

Thanks :D

Paul

Howdy Paul!  I don't know of any IHMSA matches close to you, but I suppose it's possible there may be a NRA affiliated match.  I don't know the link to that information offhand, but I'll dig around for it and post it if I'm able to find something for ya.

As a side note, I've been to your community about 12 years ago.  I don't remember much about it other than it being a nice quiet place.  Drop me an email if you ever find yourself over in the Kansas City area.  We've got a couple of silhouette matches in the area on the first and second Sunday of each month.

Best of luck getting hooked up with somewhere to shoot...

Here's the NRA competition link but it doesn't show anything for MO, at least from what I see. Good luck.    http://www.tsra.com/NRA_Sub.htm

No clubs in Missouri shoot silhouettes at the moment. Marion IL shoots the last Sunday of the month and Terre Haute IN shoots the second Sunday of the month. They are the closest clubs to you.

Paul,  The IHMSA schedule shows matches in Lafayette with the dates below.  I have also attached a link to the IHMSA page that has tons of information as well as match dates and contacts.

http://www.ihmsa.org/

4/22/2006    LAFAYETTE GUN CLUB
5/27/2006    LAFAYETTE GUN CLUB
6/24/2006    LAFAYETTE GUN CLUB

Hope this helps

Paul,

Not sure if you know where Lafayette Gun Club is, but that is over near Higginsville.  They run a real nice match over there with a lot of really nice shooters (other than me of course!) :)  It's a pretty fair drive for you, but I'd sure be happy to shake your hand and talk about guns with ya.

FYI, you're a lot closer to rifle silhouette matches over near St. Louis.  I looked into it a few years ago and I think there were two regular 500m rifle matches in Wright City and Paris and probably some smallbore rifle matches around there as well.

I'm from Southern Illinois and Eygptian Gun CLub is a great place!  And it should only be about an hour to ninety minutes drive.

Ever think about starting up your own match?  Talk with Carrol Pilliant with Sierra Bullets and see if he can put you in touch with someone in your area that used to shoot.  The targets might still be around.

7BR made a good suggestion.  Try contacting Green Valley Rifle and Pistol Club at Hallsville, MO.  They used to have a pistol silhouette program and I know they still have the targets and target stands.

NRA has regulations booklets for the matches too. I'm in Texas, so can't help much.

Hey Packn-Paul   Just letting you know, I am a member of the Bootheel Pistol club in southeast Missouri.  We have matches once a month on Saturdays.  We will have a club meeting on March 22 in Dexter, MO.

This meeting will be to dicuss changing our shoot time and maybe the date.

Membership is $45.00 a year.  You don't have to be a member to shoot, but it will cost $12.00 for non members.

It's a nice place to shoot and all the members are nice.  If this sounds interesting, call me and I'll give you more info on it.

New website just went up. http://nrahuntersrights.org/  Buttons at the top are entitled, "Places to Shoot" and "Places to Hunt".
