Lost my Trapping partner
« on: September 06, 2005, 06:14:39 PM »
Yesterday afternoon, late, my 15 y/o Golden retriever,Maggie, had a stroke.Early this morning I took her to the Vet and she was put to sleep. She was in pain and couldn't move. It's been a tough day.She was always aggressive towards coyotes even as a pup.Several calf killers ended their careers because of her.She was the best bird dog I've ever hunted over, upland or waterfowl she excelled. The house isn't the same without her around.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

Sorry to hear about your loss. Sounds like you enjoyed many years of good times with her, too.

Many years ago I was told that one of the great tragedies of life is that a man outlives his dog.
How very true that is.
The only thing that can cure that broken heart is a puppy.  At least that has always worked for me.
You will never forget a single moment of the old dog, but you will build new moments with the new that in time will sooth the hurt.  You will always be grateful for the time you had together.

Good choice.
I have had many different kinds of dogs in my life and finally arrived at the decision that in this world there are Black Labs and other dogs.
They are wonderful Water dogs, great for ducks, wonderful for kids, (even grown kids like me).
They are good upland dogs if you have trained them to work closely.
I would rather be in a duck blind with a lab than with 99% of the hunters I know.  They have better eyes for spotting ducks and they talk less. Plus, they don't drink all the coffee.
Happy hunting.
