floating the barrel
« on: September 07, 2005, 02:00:21 AM »
i read all the post's on this forum about  how all the h&r and nef guns shoot better  when shot  while resting in front of the hinge pin , i have been testing  my buff classic of my crossed sticks shoots good but don't like having the sticks so close to the action so i did sum experiments with a pice of 1/8 of an inch leather just  in front of the for end screw .which gives the barrel a lot of space to float in ,tried it again of the crossed sticks right under the for end screw bingo success. it sure made a difference so you handy hol'cs
might wont to try this it just might work on yours keep safe .and i hope that new orleans gets back to normal soon. our harts go out to the families that have lost loved ones

Sounds interesting Bernie, but I'd recommend a material that is more stable and won't change due to humidity and weather changes. I used refrigerator magnet on my mannlicher forend to create a pressure point, it should work for floating, too since it's a synthetic material and pretty much not going to absorb moisture. It also molds to the barrel real well and sticks to it. Hmmm, wonder if the magnetic properties would have effect on bullets just as the old cow magnets improved fuel economy!!! :-D  :-D  :-D

I floated my 243 with a 1/16 o ring over the forend stud.  I like the refrigerator magnet.

How about 1/16 inch sheet lead, I have a bunch of it, bet that would be just right.  Larry
