Purchased a rossi .223 heavy barrel
« on: September 07, 2005, 03:14:28 PM »
I purchased a lightly used .223 heavy barrel today. Never fired. First impressions:  It's a HEAVY barrel! balances good, has a nice crisp smooth trigger pull. I liked that It came supplied with a mount and hammer spur. I assembled a bushnell banner 3-9x40 scope with weaver med. rings on it. The comb puts your eye level witth the scope. is still pretty balanced. I purchased some ammo also, and I will shoot it tommorow. I can't wait. I had thoughts of shortening the barrel to loose a bit of weight, but I am rethinking that.
Will post a range report tommorow.

P.S What do your .223 heavies shoot best?

Hey singleshot
I wondering if you had a chance to shoot your 223 yet?
I am looking for a little feedback on these. Did you buy it from Walmart?
What kind of price did you pick it up for, if you don't mind?

Well that's alright I'll just post it here. I already have a H&R 223 Ultra, and I am very satisfied with it. However as many know with the 1 in 12 rate of twist, they love the lighter stuff. Those WWB 45gr JHP are hard to beat.
But I am looking for a cheap alternative to be able to shoot slightly heavier bullets. As with the Rossi bull barrel 223 having the 1 in 10 rate of twist. I just had a few questions for you or anyone that has one.
What ammo shoots best in yours?
-How do 55gr to 62gr perform?
-And if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost?
-I know the normal model at Walmart is about $165 how much more do you pay for the bull barrel model?
Thanks for any info you could provide.
Oh-and Single Shot Shooter, I didn't mean to high jack your thread buddy. I would like to hear from you too.

Only thing I've shot are the 45 grain varmit white box too, getting 1/2" groups, so haven't tried anything else yet. Getting ready to start reloading, and when I do, will try some heavier bullets and post results.

sorry, shot it a while back. With winchester 45 grn whitebox. It's deadly accurate. but just too heavy for me, i'm gonna take mine to the show this weekend and try to trade it for somethin else, thats a bit lighter. but accurate and has a great trigger.

I believe that you miss understood me. what I meant was the rossi was accurate and had a great trigger, but the gun itself was heavy, and was going to sell or trade for something that had an overall lighter weight. if I wanted a heavy, accurate gun, with a good trigger i would have kept the .223 heavy barreled rossi.
