Parker-Hale Muzzle Loading Rifles
« on: September 08, 2005, 10:17:26 AM »
Browsing various bulletin boards, there is much discussion & confusion as to the timings of manufacture of Parker-Hale rifles. There is also much interest in the so called '1st Generation' of rifles.

I am trying to build a picture of when Parker-Hale rifles were made and am seeking serial numbers for the following Parker-Hale muzzle loading rifles, plus the additional information if known. An indication of when the rifle was bought new would be helpful.

Pattern 1853 Rifle Musket
Rifling twist if known: some were manufactured with a 1:48 twist
Pattern 1858 Naval Rifle
Pattern 1861 Artillery Carbine (Musketoon)
Volunteer .451 rifle
Rifling: Rigby or Henry (the earliest had Rigby rifling)
   Barrel length: 33" or 36"
Whitworth .451 rifle

I have added a few notes on what I have found to date and these can be viewed at http://www.lrml.org/parkerhale/index.htm. There is also a form for submitting any any formation that you might have available and be willing to submit.

All details will be treated in confidence. Thanks.

I was aware of the Ltd Edition status, but not the limit. Serial numbers of the Enfield family are interspersed with the various models, so at the moment it is not possible to identify a particular batch as being allocated a series of numbers.
