whats the biggest fish you caught ice fishing?
« on: September 09, 2005, 03:18:06 AM »
this past winter would have been mine.  i had on a very large muskie...im guessin a 50" + fish.  i fish through an 8" hole.  fought him for 45 minutes and he had many passes under the hole for me to get a few good looks at him.  no way was he going to fit through the hole let alone get stuffed back through it when i put him back. got his head up to the hole and realized he wasnt gonna fit so i had to reach down into 32 degree water down 33" of ice with a pliers to unhook the beast...lol....its tough to bring yourself to reach down a hole woth a mouth full of teeth at the other end belonging to a seriously angry fish.  a kid who used to work for me brought a 43" through the ice two years ago and it was a tight squueze in a 10" hole.  he snapped a couple pics and sent it back down the hole

caught a giant northern two winters back.  was using a 8 inch hole, and he barely fit.  got his snout to the top of the water,  went to slide him out and his teeth cut the leader.  as i watched him slowly slip back into the water,  just before his nose was clear of the bottom of the ice,  he gave a kick of his tail and shot himself straight out of the water!!   i kicked him mid-air and he skid to a stop a few feet away from the hole.   i started howling!!  first fish i ever dragged of the ice.

my biggest fish ever pulled though the ice was a 18lb 9oz touge that i caught back in 2003 that came though a 10 inch hole, i caught it in a fishing derby, on a heritge laker with 300 yards of line, and a 8 inch sucker for bait, it took me and my parter 5 minutes to get it started off the bottom and an hour and a half to land it , it also took home the biggest fish trophy and 100 bucks.
Ice fishing is the bomb cant wait for it to start january 1?

Cant compare the that, but I did pull a 6 pound bass out once.  I cried throwing it back.  Out of season.

I did get snagged on a tree branch that wouldnt fit through the 8 inch hole.  Does that count?

Dragged a 31" walleye thru the ice on Mille Lacs a coupla years ago on a 1/32 oz. perch jig and 2# test....was tangled in all our lines before we got 'er thru the hole. Don't know exactly how much she weighed, thru 'er back down the hole as soon as I got the hook out.

Have tried icefishing for the first time this winter. Biggest so far is a 2 pound char. ( I think thats the name. Lives in freshwater, bright red sides, and white finns? ) Hope i will get the time to do som more before the ice melts. By the way, we have had 2 meters of snow in the last 48 hours :D

The biggest was caught by one my kids, the youngets girl cought a 34# sheefish aka icconu through the ice
we had thrown back some less than 10# as too small to take home.
that was 3 weeks ago, 10" hole ice was 46" thick we were set about 4 foot off the bottom (approx 3 phantoms of line) steel leader on 100# brade'd line,on a un-baited #3 Gold Dr Spoon on a stick.
