Uberti Cattleman Millenium
« on: September 09, 2005, 05:19:36 AM »
I am thinking about purchasing a new revolver to carry as a general purpuse gun when in the mountains. I already have a .44mag Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 7.5 barrel. I carry it now, but it's a bit cumbersome at times.

I'm thinking either .44mag or .357. I have been looking at the Uberti Cattleman Millenium as an option. Anyone have one, fired one, have any comments?

Thanks in advance!

:D

You might want to take a look at the Taurus line of SA revolvers.  They've gotten good reviews.

Well, you can't pump the .45 colt up much in that gun.  However, that said, there ain't much that the old .45 colt will not do with a flat nose bullet at 900 fps.  As Skeeter Skelton used to say, 'The .45 colt kills game all out of porportion to it's paper ballistics!'  And a SAA size gun sure does carry nice on the hip and feel good in the hand.  Nuf said.  44 Man.

Uberti has been building single actions for about forty years now.  I think they about have it down.  Have handled several Millennium's and they are solid, well timed pieces.  I know that the Mil is available in .45 Colt only, but for this size frame and barrel length, the .45 is perfect and would be preferred over either .44 mag or .357.  For $280, I don't think that you will find anything that comes close to its durability, portability and utility.  Most other options will be either heavier or more expensive.  For your stated purpose, who needs shiny anyway?

I recomend you get an old vaquero in 44mag. You better hurry though they've been discontinued.
