Thread pitch ?
« on: September 09, 2005, 09:00:25 AM »
After hearing about people using shockwave/sst sabots in their muzzleloaders, it got me to thinking.  With the flat tip on the ramrod, wouldn't that mess up the plastic tip on the bullet?  I've seen the loading accessories in different catalogs designed for these bullets, and was wondering what the thread pitch is on the huntsman ramrod.  Also, other than using these loading tips, what other ideas have you guy's come up with to stuff the sabot down the barrel without damaging the bullet?

Cattleskinner, I had a friend of mine that had access to a drill press. He drilled the tip so the jag had a concave appearance and it works great...

I went into the local Wal-mart last night, and while looking at their hunting stuff, I saw that they had a loading jag for polymer tipped bullets.  Since it was only a couple bucks, I picked it up.  Well, don't get 10-32 thread pitch...it doesn't work on the huntsman rod.  Good thing that my dad can use it for his T/C muzzleloader....The search continues....

I wish they would standardize the threads on all ramrods and accessories, 10-32 would be cool. So the Huntsman uses 8-32 for accessories or? Thanks-Jack.

The first thing that I did was buy a length or metal round stock, turned a wood handle for it and tapped the end to fit normal tips and jags.  The stocker is soo poorly designed that I cannot trust it in the field.  I just tie the ramrod that I made onto my pack( it has attatchements already on it) while hunting and it has never gotten in the way.  And lets face it, there is no such thing as a rapid follow up shot anyway - despite what the speedloader folks try to sell you.  I even took the ring off the barrel that holds the stock rod in place as I saw no need for it.  I do throw the stock ramrod into the pack as backup.
