870 problem

I have a 870 SP that has had thousands of shells through it. I took it dove hunting the other day it every now and then it would not pick up the next shell out of the magazine, so I ended up clicking a few birds. I have ordered a new mag spring and follower. I don't know if that is the problem or not. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? I hate to retire the old beast I have only shot it for 15 years.
Thanks

Their customer service is supposed to be pretty good. I think if you call them, they will tell you to send it in, and they will make it like new.
They will call you with a quote before they do anything though.

Afore sending it in and missing part or all of the season, try a different lot or brand of shells. I had trouble feeding ammo in one of my rifles. Switched brand of ammo, problem disappeared and never returned.

Replaced the magazine spring and follower with a performance kit from cabelas. Now the shells come out with some force, the spring is about 1.5 times as long as the factory spring and made of stainless steel. Aluminum follower, nothing to rust. For 24.95 I would suggest them. The web site for this product is
www.surecycle.com
. They also have some cool stuff for 1100 and 11-87's for you guys that are too lazy to pump a shotgun like it should be done.
