I would be grateful for any recipes for full-power hunting loads for my .45LC Ruger Bisley and LBT 300 gr., Gas-Checked LBT LFN.

My Bisley has the 5.5" barrel.

With a 300 grain bullet, 21 grains of H 110 works well from my 7 & 1/2" Ruger Bisley. I use Starline cases and CCI large pistol magnum primers. This load will cleanly take deer as far as you can hit well.

Really give your Ruger a looksie before loading hotrod ammo.

I would like to say that hotrod 45 ammo, though fasinating and high performance, is totally unnessesary for hunting. I could shoot right along side of any hotrod 300gr 45 Colt loading with a 300gr loading running much slower and kill all game you intended to shoot just as dead. Your gun and hand and trigger finger will love you for it.

Here is some of my favorite "medium" loadings: 19-20grs H4227 will run in the 1100fps range. 18gr 2400 will run in the 1100fps range. 20grs LIL GUN will run in the 1100fps range or maybe a sniffle faster. You can go ahead and light up as much as 24-25grs H110 under that 300grs and gain 200fps more, but it comes with a price. I have gone both ways and I pick the slower loads.

Remember, these loads are prettey much at Max.

I ordered 100 o' the LBT's and 100 new Starline cases. I have both Win. 296 and a lb of 2400 on hand, so I'll likely roll up about 12 with each powder and go to the range.

TNrifleman: I will try your load starting with about 19.5 gr. of 296, that will be fairly close to a slightly reduced load of H110...

I'm in Memphis, what end of TN you call home?

F-1: I usually start my loads (and if I get good accuracy, stay at) about a full grain below max for loads under 20 grains and 1.5-2 grains light on charges over 20 grains max... I never feel the need for nerve damage just to thump Bambi or a hog!

Just for my information, was the 1100+ fps with the 18 gr. of 2400 from a 7.5" or shorter barrel?

24 grs. of H-110 or W296 is max for 300-320 gr. loads. My Bisley also has a 51/2" bbl. By the way I'm in the Miss. Delta and only a 11/2 hours from Memphis. If your talking about deer hunting you won't need a max load. If your talking large hogs I like the extra power of the full house loads. :grin:

Hey Perklo, where did you get those grips? They look sharp. Also meant to tell you that H-110 and W296 are interchangeable in charge weights. I load 24 grs. of H-110 with a 310gr. Keith Hard Cast . They run right at 1200 fps. Another thing you might want to check is the throat dimensions. Most of the new Rugers are running .448 to .450 which is to tight. This is easily fixed however. :grin:

I am from the other end of TN near Chattanooga. Good luck with the Ruger. I love the Bisley model. It is excellent for shooting heavy loads. I haven't seen the need to go beyond the load I mentioned for any application.

I recently bought 500 285 grain Beartooth WFNGC bullets. I will start working up a load for this bullet soon.

Brownells also has them in stock (www.brownells.com).

Be forewarned, I've had two pairs now at $29.00 each and neither one is 100% satisfactory. On the first set, the left panel shifted back and forth no matter how tight I tried it, the soft brass screw had to be fitted and the slot marred trying to tighten.

So after a year I bought another set. This one had a stainless screw that I had to trim over 1/2" off of, and the left panel bows away from the bottom of the grip frame when the screw is tightened at the top... Ugly.

I REALLY wish one of the modern (Uncle mike's, Hogue or Pacmayer) companies would get off their butts and make some hunter friendly panels for these guns! Not all Bisley users are cowboy action types - it's the best platform for heavy hunting loads available as a economical factory gun.

While their at it, how about a replacement fiber-optic front sight blade...

Perklo, I have a fiber optic front sight on my Bisley. You can order the base and type of sight from Weigan Combat. SDM Fabricating also makes just the fiber optic sight to fit the Weigan Combat DX base. The fiber optic sight makes a big difference, especially in the woods. :grin:

My gunsmith in Shelby, MS. put mine on with two screws countersunk into the Weigan base. There's no way that sucker will move. If you want to give him a call his name is Tim Thompson at Bill's Custom Automatics @ (662) 398-5001. They used to live in Alaska. When they moved here they sold their gunshop to what is now Wild West Guns. :grin:

Sorry I forgot to add the load recipes. First I load a round with a 300 gr XTP with 19.5 grs of WC820. This is a pull down powder (H108) from Hodgdon. It moves at 1106 fps average at 50yds with a group size of .151"

I also load a 230 gr XTP with 23 grs of WC820 for an average velocity of 1368 fps and a group size of .113" at 50 yds. My last load is a gas check bullet. It is a 300 gr RNFP-GC with 22 grs of WC820. It moves at 1387 fps with a group size of just under moa at 50 yards. Very fast for a large bullet, but it should be a good bullet for a hog hunt.

These are not max loads. No need to over stress my hands or my gun!!!
