Installing 'rifle' sights on tapered barrel?
« on: September 12, 2005, 07:12:00 AM »
Has anyone done this?   Easy?  Now I have an extra 30-06 barrel....I have plenty of scoped hunting rifles....more than enough to meet my needs and possibly a small army.....but I was thinking this 30-06 would be really useful with iron sights as a truck gun and back-up hunting rifle in case I knocked a scope out of whack while hunting.
....make it count

I have never done it, but I am interested in iron sights on a 308 barrel.  I know that NEF will but them on for a fee, but I don't like the new NEF sights.

I did, however, find some instructions on how to do it with basic tools.  It looked like more than I could handle.  Let me dig around on the computer here and see what I did with the instructions.

Should be pretty simple, right diameter and height  That is if you can get the holes tapped straight on center.  Here is the web site for Williams Gun Sights.  They have their catalog to download or look at in pdf.  Has a section on choosing the right front sight for the rear sight you use. www.williamsgunsight.com

I assume it is tapped for a scope, they have a nice receiver style peep for the H&R listed in the catalog.  Has 1 inch spacing to fit the scope mount holes.

Good luck on your project, Dale.
