disassembly instructions for a 1911??

i know how to remove the slide and barrel assembly but i want to replace some stock parts with some custom stuff i.e. hammer, grip safety etc.
i need to learn to completely strip the gun down to the frame
so where can i go to find it.....?? probably on this contraption in typing into
right??

I learned how to do it very effectively from the Wilson Combat video on the subject. I highly recommend it. Beware though, that some of the parts you're considering replacing may need fitting by a gunsmith. Make sure you are buying only drop-in parts unless you want the fitting done for you.

By the way, it's a very easy process that requires minimal tools. But you do need to have someone teach you the tricks because you probably wouldn't figure them out yourself. The video is more effective than a book for stuff like this.

Disassembly instructions are available at http://www.m1911.org/.  Click on the Home Page link and then "Disassembly" in the menu on the left.  Each step has a corresponding picture.

There is a lot of good information on the 1911 pistol on this site.

I've been well satisfied with the Ed Brown CD. It's pretty nice and the pages are in a printable format.
