Shocking results with Talley rings
« on: September 13, 2005, 03:23:44 PM »
Those terribly expensive Talley rings I wrote about in my recent "what kind of fool am I" post turn out to be really good. These are the quick detach rings with levers. I installed the bases and rings, then sighted the gun in for 100 yards. When I remove and replace the scope, all the bullets in a second group fall into the same group that was shot before removing the scope. That's pretty amazing.  Maybe that $140 wasn't such a bad deal after all.

My rifles that will accept Talley's, all wear them.  Best on the market in my opinion.  There's a world of difference between them and Warne's, especially in craftsmanship and quality materials.

My Leupold QD rings will do the same thing for half the price. I also have some 30 year old Weaver mounts that will do the same thing, but you need to have two bits in your pocket to do it.

Yep...but my QRW's cost even less...$54.00 out the door...The Talleys are nice...but not worth $140.00...unless they are hand engraved :)

I've got a couple of sets of the Leupolds too and they are good (after you get past the idea of cramming your scope down into them). But the Talleys do seem to be in a class by themselves. I don't think I'd put them on just any rifle, but for a big bore, you may want to consider them. I felt like a fool for buying them, but after getting them set up and seeing them perform, I'm glad I went with them. Usually if I get something and have regrets about it, I'll say so rather bluntly and call myself an idiot for wasting my money. In this case, I think it was a good thing.
