Got back into shooting
« on: September 14, 2005, 08:56:50 PM »
after over 30 years and just got an Ultra Fluted in .223. I've read the "stickys" and cleaned the barrel up but have not lapped anything or done a trigger job.  (You guys are sure thorough tricking out NEF/H&R guns.)  I'm going to do that stuff a piece at a time--a little experiment. I promise to report, send pictures, and ask questions.

I want to tell you that this forum is very, very good.  I've been reading your stuff for a couple of months and you're the reason I got what I got.

I'm planning these barrels--30.06 comp (always wanted one), 357 (cheap 38 shooting plus brush), and I was thinking about a slug barrel.  I know you guys have some thoughts so have at it. :D

Goo to hear from you bj.  I too had a dry spell from shooting because of a divorce and all the hassles that go along with that, then the energy/time spent getting back on my feet. Not 30 years, but long enough!

This is a great forum with great people, as you already know, and you will be welcomed.

Cheers
Kerry

Welcome to the forums :D

Not every handi needs the tweaks. Many  are great shooters right out of the box.

Have fun,

Rick

I Welcome you too bjohnsonaz. Pick you up some WWB 45gr JHP.....the 223's love the stuff.
I hope you will be able to find a 30-06UltraComp....NEF/H&R doesn't make them anymore. But if you look around here long enough I am sure one will pop up sooner or later. They still had some 270 UltraComps not to long ago back at the factory.
Just be sure to nab it when you can.
I too am looking to get a 357. It's just too fun a round.

Hi    :D bjohnsonaz

Welcome, You should like your .223, I have one and she shoots great. Myarmor is right on the money with the .223 ammo.
Good choices on your other calibers . If you ever need help with anything come back here.

Thanks I got the right ammo--light 45gr. ones because of the rifling. Have mounted a scope, bore sighted, and ready to go to the range.  Maybe tomorrow.

Welcome B Johnson AZ...

Be careful; my story is the same as yours.

Had not bought myself any guns for the last 20-30 years then last March 2004 I found this forum.  Since that fateful day, I have acquired 14 complete Handi rifles.  It is called "Handi-Holic-itis".  Nobody warned me in time.  I would say "SAVE YOURSELF", but it is already too late, you have touched a "Handi".

I have a .223 ultra also. Held great groups at 100 yards. lacked a little at 200 and 300. put a 20 dollar deresonater on it and fixed the problem.
Good luck. I think you will enjoy your new rifle.
