Would like some advice,I have a Ruger #1b custom built by Fred Smith at Bullberry that is to pretty to [for me anyway] hunt with,the rifle is exelent condition and a tack driver,chambered in 6.5-284.I know this cardridge is for reloaders only and would limit the market but would anyone know what this rifle is worth as I want to sell it. I could be wrong but unless it has both a high grade custom stock and custom barrel it is likely not going to sell for any more than a standard Ruger #1B would which is about $450-500 at the most and likely not quite that high. New they aren't much more than $600-650.

High grade custom wood and engraving add some but usually more for collectors than shooters. Custom barrels really add nothing to value and an unusual round can actually hurt value.

In that case it should sell for more than a standard factory rifle would. But I'm really not in a position to say how much more. The one given with most customs is that you can't get your money back when you sell them. Just hardly ever seems to work out that way. Good luck on it tho. Maybe someone else will have some idea.

I'm thinking I'd take the average used price of a #1B and add to it from 50% to 75% of the cost of the custom stock and use that as a basis for selling price. Don't honestly think the custom barrel will add to price but then who knows. If you find the right person looking for just what you have it can be a seller's market.

You're right that the 6.5-.282 wildcat is going to limit the field. But without seeing it and considering everything else I wouldn't take less then $750.00(minus scope) for it. Be worth that much to me to keep it. Lawdog

Knowing how persnickety David is the rifle should sell for a heck of a lot more than 750.00!!! If he says it shoot?? It will! Better than you and me anyway! Pretty? This guy KNOWS his pretty!!

Remember I said "I wouldn't take less then $750.00(minus scope)" and without seeing the rifle, being able to judge the stock(type and grade of wood - the work on the stock(checkering, finish, etc.)) and the work that went into it I figured $750.00 was a good starting point. You also have to take into account that the 6.5-284 is a wildcat cartridge and that does bring down the price for the average shooter. I should have explained my estimate better but I still stand by it. Lawdog
