I finally found one!
« on: September 15, 2005, 04:39:14 PM »
I am happy to say I have entered the Single Shot market. It took me 2 years to find my new Ruger #1 in 7mm-08 Stainless Laminated stock. I have always admired the #1 and I have wanted one since I bought the first one I found for my hunting partners left handed son. I regreted not buying it for myself ever since, but was patient and found a new one in a collection that I was able to buy. Paid $600.00 for it and yes that did hurt a little. It is really a sweet rifle. I just really like the way it works. Just started making up some hand loads with some Nosler ballistic tips in 150 grains. Hope I can get it to shoot with out too much work! It did not like 140 Bt's too good but shot around 1". I am comfortable hunting with it that way, but feel it should be capable of better groups.

If anyone here has some experience with this gun I would appreciate the help.

Congratulations Bubba!
The #1 is a fine rifle, and as strong as anything out there today. As for getting it to shoot better, I'm not sure you'll get much better than 1" at 100 yds! That's pretty fine shooting for a 7mm-08 caliber. I don't think I could hold better than that, even if the gun could do it!

You are going to love you #1. I think single shot rifles and hunting is great.  :-D  :D

I have the exact same gun and have been handloading rounds for it in 140 and 150gr.
The 150gr Sierra Game Kings seem to do best with IMR 4350 and CCI primers.  In 140 gr. I have liked Varget powder.  Mine likes 'em right up against the lands.  It has taken a few whitetail and am hoping to get a black bear this fall.
Have fun!
