We've got a ton of does around here and I've had them at arms length during bow season. Actually, I doubt I'll get a chance anytime soon but the guys I hunt with are used to me useing what they term, unusual weapons. I use a stick bow at times, took one with a 58 Remington revolver, I use a flinter while they all use inlines, I use a Pedersoli SxS during our regular shotgun season and when I do use a regular shotgun I use Buckshot at close range. It's not hard to kill a deer around here, they are everywhere so I've taken to making it a little harder. I don't really care if I kill one anymore and it's no big deal how I do it, I just like to be out in the woods having fun. Maybe I'll get to track down someones cripple and instead of shooting it again, I'll stick it.
I actually killed a buck in what you might term, hand to hand combat, using a knife and a broken arrow, no kidding. I took a bad bow shot and made alot of other mistakes that led up to it but I finally found him in some thick briars. When I tried to shoot him again he got pissed, charged, knocked me down and kept comming. I grabbed his antlers and tried the knife but it was too small so after I got him on the ground I used a broken arrow that was stuck in his shoulder to let the air out of his lungs. He caused permanent damage to my knee and I had to get a buddy and his ATV to get me and that deer out of the woods. It wasn't funny at the time but my buddies always have me track down the cripples for them, they know how much I "Enjoy" it... :roll:
