Montana Antelope Rut
« on: September 19, 2005, 10:39:54 AM »
Anybody out there been out lately for antelope?  I am curious as to whether or not people are seeing rutting behavior.  This late in the month I would think so but here around Great Falls they are not coming into the decoys or calls.  I have watched them chase some of the smaller satellite bucks around but not as a aggressive as they should be.  This time of year they should be running my decoy over.  I set up on three different groups this morning and the herd bucks would look for a few minutes and then run the does out but the satellite bucks would come in for a look but only to 80-100 yards.  This just seems odd to me.  If anybody has any ideas I am all ears.

What part of the state do you live in?  I have heard tonight from a neighbor that they are rutting around Cascade also.  I wish there was a science to figuring this and determining the peak.  This is the latest here where I haven't seen them going strong.  Oh well...  I will just have to spend more days out there trying.

So Nonya did you get a nice one?

Ya know, I did see that one.  My brother in laew emailed me the link and was poking fun at me the day you posted that.  That is a nice speed goat.  I have a couple picked out here that I know will go P&Y but if they won't cooperate then I don't know what to do.  Hopefully the rut will kick in here in the next few days.  I know they are on the edge but that isn't helping me.  One of the bucks I am chasing has some massive cutters and thick bases but the other one is tall with average mass.  I hope to have a picture to post here soon...  :?
