Will it hurt to "test drive" my new rifle with the shim in place but not epoxied in?

Is the barrel loose. Like moves in a lateral motion. or does it not lock up fully. Like the latch won't fully engage?

No the barrel latches up fine everything is great and it does it repeatedly. Let me answer my own question. No it wont hurt to shoot it without the shim epoxied in.

I seem to remember a post were a fella had a brass shim laid over the pivot, shot it like that for 30 years.

I don't think it would hurt anything if your getting good lockup.
