Understand it to be carbine with cross bolt safety.

I have a 336CS, made in 1948. Where is the safety? Is it some of the workings on the inside?

The safety is the 1/2 cock of the hammer. That was in the good ol days before things run by lawyers.

Let me reword my question.
I have a 1948 336CS. What does the CS stand for? It is not cross bolt safety I guarantee.
I did know about the half cock, thank you. I always figured any gun with an exposed hammer don't get much safer than that.

Are you sure it isnt a 336SC? Does it have a 3/4 mag tube?
The model 336CS was not made until 1984

The RC is a Regular Carbine. It has the full mag tube with barrel bands. Which is the same gun as the later model CS but the CS has the Cross bolt safety. If it were a SC that would be a Sporting Carbine with a 3/4 mag tube and a forearm cap insted of the barrel bands. Hope that helps. Either way it sounds like you have a pretty nice rifle.
