Fix deformed tips on jacked bullets
« on: September 20, 2005, 11:20:52 AM »
I know that everyone has had tips on jacked bullets that are a little dinged up before you reload them. I some times buy rejects and there tips can be some what bad. I put them in a vibrating tub with media in it and turn it for about 3 hrs and the tips come out nice and pointed. Just the bullets!!!! not the shells. Zeak

hey zeak, just for grins take some of those dinged bullets and shoot them for group. Then file a SMALL defect in the BASE of a dozen or so and see how they group. Pretty don't always cut it!

 GOOD POINT!!  :) Pun intended!!
practical accuracy speaking, the tips have little to do with accuracy, the heel of the bullet, now THATS inportant!!
Yea, it will have a ballistic effect, but not until the bullet travels a couple hundred yards.
Before I get flamed....I know all about ballistic tips and what they do. There reason for being is at least two fold. Pointy tips have everything to do with the very high B.C. these bullets attain. They also greatly aid in long range expansion. Or rather the initial start of expansion.

Have you heard the term trash in trash out. Buy good bullets, your proof will be in the targets.  :D

Meplat is the term

Meplat is the term for the "point" of a bullet.  For most the meplat will not make a huge difference but for long range and the insanely obsessed folks....like me.....they make

meplat uniformers

There are several makes and models.
