A couple of years ago i sold my 1895SS 22" micro groove barrel. So I have been tossing the idea around on buying the 1895GS i just love the straight stock and stainless . My question is the shorter barrel and how you guys like it and how do the new marlins shoot.

I really like mine. If you like to reload cast bullets, this is the rifle for you, too. All of the guide guns have ballard rifling. So far, I've worked up loads for 350 and 405 cast bullets. Those big holes make you glad you're on that end of the rifle! The short barrel makes it real handy to carry.

Is it true that they will shoot jacketed bullets as well as cast?

I have the blued 45-70 guide gun and yes, jacketed as well as cast bullets shoot well through this barrel. :grin: pg

They shoot jacketed better than cast. Why? Because Marlin boogers up the barrel when cutting dovetails and stamping the nomenclature.

.460" diameter cast , or gas-checked will give you OK accuracy. .458" or .459" will lead up and key-hole. A lot of cast bullets are a giant rip-off for what you get. Cast your own if you are going to shoot cast.

The 405gr Remington JSP will give you one-hole accuracy. It is by far the best bullet value if you are going to purchase jacketted bullets.

Thanks for your replys i have a sweet spot for the Hornady 350 grain bullets anmd my handi rifle shoots the remington 300 and 405 's with great accuracy. The 1895SS i had loved the 350 and up for some reason i couldn';t get good accuracy from the 300's. Thanks again Tanoose
