Author Topic: Anybody shoot Barnes XLC's in their handi? (Read 352 times)

I guess its a little late since they are ordered, but Fed. Prem. w/Barnes XLC's for $14.99 to me, at least, is a pretty good deal. Ordered 7 boxes of 150 gr. from Midway. So now that I have committed to this deal, I need some handimatic feedback. how have they shot? And any pros and cons? thanks. I have been around most every day, just too busy locking up all these "junival krinimals" to sit down and post. But, hey deer season approaches, so priorities must be met, so I'm back. BTW I didn't read any of the posts from the "Outlaw" jerk who got banned by GB, but my 2 cents is good riddance. As gun owners, and hunters in todays world, we must be a unified front with ethical and moral steadfastness, and set a solid example for nons and the youth. Any personal issues must be tempered by a committment to our future as outdoorsmen. OK I'm done. Sorry for the rant.

I tried them 1 time...won't use them again...didn't like the accuracy I got with them...and it took me a long time to clean up the mess they left behind in my barrel.The blue moly is a real pain to get out...and if you shoot anything else besides it without cleaning it all out.. you won't like the outcome.

Hmmm, so traces of moly left behind harms the accuracy of non-moly coated bullets if you don't clean it out? Or worse? Didn't know that. Glad I read this.

well i reloaded them in a 223 round last year and liked them , in fact just got 2 more boxes to reload them this winter in the 223 i use the 50 gr hollow points

The coating isn't molly, just a dry film lube. It works great, and doesn't make a mess at all, infact it is much easier to clean your rifle up without all the copper left in the barrel. They also get you about 50 to 100 fps more speed than without the coating. I use coated VLC's in a 22-250. Larry

Your right...it isn't really true moly..but...talking with Ty at Barnes it acts just like moly.It does leave a-lot of the film in the bore...at least it did with mine...and yes...I tried shooting regular jacketed bullets along with the XLC's and they were all over the map...I also tried shooting them with the Combined Technologies black Lubalox bullets...1 time...4 to 5" groups and a shift of zero almost 6" for the same weight and velocity of bullet...

They may shoot good for you...and if they do super...they will give you a good increase in velocity...but so too will the C/T Lubalox coated bullets...and the clean up to me is a-lot easier with the black...but...a-lot of folks just leave the film in their barrels without cleaning it...I won't... I've heard too many tales from close friends who have had their barrels pitted from moisture forming underneath that blue film...supposedly the properties of the Lubalox dispells moisture thru it..I don't know...but I can shoot a-lot of these C/T bullets without accuracy falling off...
