Thinking of buying a new Colt SAA
« on: September 22, 2005, 09:41:14 AM »
I am thinking of buying a new Colt SAA through the custom shop. I was wondering if anyone would share their experiance with the custom shop. I have never dealt with them before. I am thinking of a 3.5 barreled colt with birds head grip and ejector. I know other companies make similliar models but I have always wanted a genuine colt.

thanks

wile, if they will build that one for you, please let me know.  I have seen some nice work come out of their custom shop. Good luck.

I think 'genuine' is the key word. Colts have the righ name on the gun but they aren't made as well as they once were. Most people seem to think the best SAAs are made by USFA nowdays. Which is a nice way of putting it compared to what the master himself says on the Bowen Classic Arms website in his Gun Notes section.

Buford, they will make it with the birds head grip, they build it with a lightning type grip. I have already talked to them about that. I am waiting to find out if they can put an ejector on a 3.5 inch barrel. Right now I am leaning toward a royal blue finish with Ivory grips.

This is my first experiance with the Custom shop. So far so good. I have always wanted a genuine colt there is just something about them. I know you pay more for the name but to me it is worth it. It is the real deal and not a reproduction or replica. Plus working with the custom shop I get to design it, when it is done it will be my pistol and I am going to shoot it. It wont be a display piece.

Please post a picture of that birdshead when you get it.  It should be a beauty for sure.

from the time I finalize what I want and it is finished it will be about 6 months. This is a pic of a colt from the custom shop with their birds head grip. It really matches the lightning grip. I am going with the same royal blue as this one but with out the engraving and the gold inlays, I am also going to go with the ivory grips. I am really looking forward to it. I just hope they can do it in 3.5, they can do it in 4 inch but am still waiting on word if they can do it in 3.5 and the final price.

I have owned a couple of 4" bbl SAA clones.  Best balanced single action I have ever handled.  44 Man

I got all the information back from the Colt Custom Shop. They will do a 3.5 barrel with ejector. Now I must decide, and put my order in but  I am having trouble. This is going to be a once in a lifetime purchase for me. Would apprecate anyones advice and experiance they have had with short barrled S.A. I can not decide between the 4 inch with standard grip frame or 3.5 with a birdshead grip.  Which ever one I get it is going to be used, I am going to use it in CAS events.  Thanks for the advice.
