My son has just ordered a SB2-270 and asked me to help with putting a scope on it. I am planning on Burris Z rings and am trying to determine if low or medium height rings are better when mounting a 3-9 x 40 scope. I would like it to be as low as possible w/o interfering with the hammer or barrel. Inputs would certainly be appreciated.

I used to really like the BURRIS ZEE RING. Then began to have problems with the quality control. They wouldnt fit on the bases with out "adjustment". Then those lousey screws that always stripped out......

Now I use LEUPOLD rings in med height for most of my scope mounted handis. It puts the scope as close as posible. Closer than any ring I have found. The only thing I am unsure about is the 40mm obj. Mine are all 33, 28 or 20 mm's. But I think it will work for a 40mm as well.

Leupold rings are a bit spendy but they are definately better quality; should work out fine in medium with a 40mm objective.

I have burris signature z rings on my SB2 with a Swift 4-12X40 scope. I had to take a few thousants off the top of the hammer spur and edge of the hammer extension to keep it from hitting the eye bell on the scope. The Signature rings with the inserts are slightly higher than the regular z rings I think, mine are medium, so if you are not wanting to do any work on the hammer you may need to go to high burris rings. Probably all depends on the eye bell on the scope you have. Larry

i'd say high rings, i got the Nikon 3-9x40 and the hammer just fits between the power and focus rings. SO file it down or high rings. I use Leupold Rifleman rings.
