I took the 22 Mag Ultra out today and I must say I am disappointed.  It does not shoot near as accurately as my Marlin or my Savage.  I did not do any bore polishing or anything like that.

I did clean the bore and put some shims under the foreend to float the barrel.  I did this only after shooting the rifle as it came the first time.  The rifle seemed to prefer CCI ammo.  I had CCI, Winchester, and Winchester Supreme ammo on hand to try.

I only shot the rifle at 50 yards as the group at that range was about 1and1/2 inches.  If I remember correctly my Marlin and Savage will do 1 inch or better at 100 yards.  Any advice?

Hi
I've got a sportster youth in 22 mag as well as a Marlin 25mn and a marlin 922.

They each like a different load.  my sportster likes the PMC predator load best of what-all I've tried, that includes the winchester supremes(didn't like), the win. grey box (shoots those OK) remington vmax, win dynapoints three different CCI loads (shoots the CCI maximag 40gn HP OK but not the gold dots or the TNTs).

My gun seems to like 40 grain loads.

If you're shooting at 50 using a non-AO scope paralax may be a factor.

My rifle shoots better with a fouled bore-10 rounds or so.

I am going to try and get some more ammo that I don't have and try them.  The scope I have on the rifle is a Bushnell 3X9.  Yes I know, I could do a lot better in the scope department but I have always found the Bushnell to be OK on the rimfires.  I will keep trying and see if I can find the problem.

I took the 22 Mag Ultra Varmint back out today and did much better.  I tried 3 more brands of ammo.  I only shot 2 shot groups in order to try and keep barrel heat up down.

The rifle seemed to like the Winchester 45 GR. Dynapoint the best.  Here is a pic of my 2 shot group at 100 yards.  The scope isn't fully sighted in yet.  I Will determine what round I will be using before I worry about that.
