Acc barrel w/o sending stocks?
« on: September 23, 2005, 05:37:32 AM »
I've heard a few stories of woodwork getting damaged in the barrel fitting room, or in return shipping after a barrel fitting.
Has anybody ever sent just the receiver in to H&R, and if so, what was the result? Seems like they'd have some shop stocks handy for testfiring if necessary.

Just this week sent 4 receivers no wood, 3 for trigger jobs and 1 for barrels. No problem from the company. It's said that they just won't test fire your barrels without any wood is all.

I should have thought of this before I sent in my Ultra Varmint cinnamon laminate stock and forearm in for an accessory barrel...Hopefully my wood is not damaged.  :?

I did when I got my .357 and .44 barrels. No problem at all. This allowed me to send the receiver in a smaller package, and saved shipping costs with the reduced weight. Thinking of sending another receiver in for a couple more barrels and will send it w/o the buttstock also. 8)

Oops! I forgot, when I sent the receiver only I also purchased a set of synthetic stocks. I asked the C/S person if I could send the receiver w/o the stocks and she said I could. Don't know if that made a difference or not. Sorry, my bad.

The wife sent in my son's 243 reciever to have a 45-70, and a Huntsman barrel fitted.  When it was returned the Huntsman barrel was on the reciever, and the 45-70 was loose in the box.  The front sight on the 45-70 barrel had eaten into the stock, in the pistol grip area.  I called and they sent me a new stock, no questions asked.  Yes the stock was damaged but I have no problem with it since they covered it.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Sent my reciever 2x now with out any lumber on it.
No problems with the lumber getting dinged that way.
Shipping is way cheaper also if you send the reciever off in USPS flat rate shipping package.
Just make sure you pad the reciever well and insure it.

That's the way I sent my four.  Box and all weighed 6 lbs. 7.30 oz.  All for $7.70 shipping to Mass. Can't beat that!  :D

rifle sent for repair
« Reply #11 on: September 30, 2005, 01:03:51 AM »
I sent a Handi Rifle in for repair a few weeks ago. When I got it back the forend had some real damage. It lookd like they had put in in a vice and really put the pressure to it. After a few e-mails, they sent me a new one. I would not send any wood to them that was special to me...

I used a USPS video tape box, and lots of newspaper stuffing.
cost me $7.10 with $100 insurance.
