I use this front sight on the 38-55 B.C. with the williams FP peep sight
This front sight will also work excellent with the factory peep that comes on the B.C. should get you to 150+  yards without any problems

H&R lists the 38-55 Target front sight as part#R03020 $30.90, me thinks maybe I'm missing a page, they list the BC carbine front sight, but none for the BC, Track sells the .494"  for a little less.

You guys got me looking at front sights again, I've always wanted one that's windage adjustable with spirit level, so I browsed Track's sights whilst there yesterday, found this one and ordered it, should work great with the Smith sight which is pretty much fixed for windage adjustment.

You mean what years! ::) Several years, it didn't happen just one year, there are lots of complaints on it, mine is a 2003.

Quick,
The front sight is cool although a bit pricey. It looks well built and is probably worth it. I'm going to have more money in the sights than I do in the rifle!
BTW My rifle is a 2007 and has the .584 front sight. H&R seems to get the front sight height incorrect quite often. If you'll remember last year I'm the one that they put a 22 Hornet front sight on a 357 mag barrel. You saw the pics I posted and said "That's a Hornet sight"!! You guessed right. I called them and they sent the correct one right out to me. - Don

H&R seems to get the front sight height incorrect quite often.

The problem is, they don't know they're putting the wrong sight on.  Before I ordered a new front sight last month, I called H&R and told the tech that I had the .584 and it shoots low.  I asked if that was the correct sight and he told me it was.  I asked if they had a lower front sight and he referred me to Midway.  No help from H&R.  If it shot the required 2 MOA during testing, they must test with tiny little bullets.

Yeah, I dunno if they run out of the .494" sight, or just mix em up, but it's frustrating, same for the Hornet and 357 sights.  :-\

The Pedersoli sight I posted is about entry level pricing for that type of sight, there are a bunch of sights that are similar but much more expensive.  :'(

Tim, is there any way to tell which site you have without wasting ammo or using a micrometer?

.494" is slightly less than ½", .584" is well over ½", measure from the bottom of the sight to the center of the globe just like Buster's pic shows.

The 2006 model Buffalo Classic I just bought also has the .584" front sight. Seems to be a VERY common screw up on H&R's part.

You can call and ask em, but they don't offer the .404" which is the best choice if you want to shoot long range, whether they actually have the .494" or not, I dunno, it's not listed on the parts list, but I suspect I may be missing a page, there's no front sight listed for the BC, just the Target and the Carbine, I've asked the H&R/Marlin/Remington rep to check it and send it to me if so,  but he's in Ilion this week, he has to wait until he gets back to Madison.

Bernie, it's for my 38-55 Target, so that makes it even better, I was kinda worried it might be too low.  ;)

My Buff Classic is a Wesson & Harrington so I cannot tell the year from the serial number prefix (they all begin WH). It also has a .584 front sight on it. Unfortunately during the move out of Gardner it seems many records (and much knowledge and expierence) were lost or misplaced....<><....:(

I hate to detract from the talk about front sights but The original post showed a pic of a Williams FP sight with a 3rd adjustable screw on the side of the sight. I believe dodd3 called it an "angular locking bushing screw". I have the same sight on my 38-55 but without the hand adjustable screw. Does anyone know anything that screw, can it be ordered from Williams???

It pays to read the entire thread.  ;)

Tim

Williams has the set screw with a knob on it, Brownell's sells it for $8.50, part #962-000-079.

MSP Ret- Thanks for the welcome, actually I am a hold over from the old H&R forum. Tried to join Gray Beards Form long ago but password/name got screwed up so I gave up in frustration.
