Lawdog,
I can't speak to the "Short Trac", and given it is relatively new,
there may not be a bunch of experience with them yet. I only
have one word to say about my Browning BAR LW Stalker, in
.308 Win...SWEEEEEEEET! I have actually considered getting
another one, in .243 Win, as a coyote rifle. My BAR shoots
about .75 MOA, with plain jane 150 gr. Winchester SP's.
Hopefully I will get some time to dial in some TSX loads,
in either 130 gr. or 150 gr. I have some 130 gr. Barnes XBT load,
for a Savage Striker, that I ran through it, just to see how they shot in
the rifle, and the best 3 shot group was .6 MOA. I think the TSX
loads, tuned to this gun, should tighten this group up even
a bit more. About the only kick I have against the gun is the
trigger is adjustable, and I have it adjusted to it's lightest
force setting, and for it's minimum travel setting, and it still
sucks. At some point I will take it to the trigger magician,
and have him work his magic on it.
Given what I know of other BAR's, and I was in the market
for a Short Trac, I would take the chance, and buy one.
I just have a hard time with the styling. The old BAR really
trips my trigger, so I will probably stay with that style,
provided Browning doesn't discontinue them.
