Model 97 and knuckle rap
« on: September 25, 2005, 04:27:48 AM »
I have a Model 97 44 special, and with my "heavy load" (250 gr Keith & 15.5 gr 2400), it raps the knuckle on my middle finger pretty hard.  My light loads aren't a bother.  Something about the grip shape is catching me just right (or just wrong, depending on how you want to look at it).  Anyway, would dropping back to say 15.0 grains of 2400 make any difference?  Any other ideas?

Thanks
Regards,

Tom

Iffen ya need a .44 Magnum buy one. It's a .44 Special. Load it like one and it will be a pleasant gun to shoot. Load it like it was a magnum and it's gonna bruise you.

Those 97's are cute little things, but therin lies a problem. I have average size hands and the grip seems a little small for me,( but mine is in .22lr/22mag so no recoil.) The grip being small brings your knuckle closer to the trigger guard than on the model 83. My m83 in .454 does not hit my fingers, but on the m97 my knuckle is nearly against the trigger guard. Maybe you should consider wearing a shooting glove---even with lighter loads! :grin:I wear a glove when shooting my m97 just to make the grip fill my hand better.  pg

Shoot lighter loads or either tape the culprit finger up with medical tape. I don't think any change of the grip will help much since the grip frame is soo small. These little guns are going to buck like that when you shoot stiff loads in them. There's no way around it. I use the tape.

Take Care,
