A friend of mine and I were at the range, he had loaded some 30-06 under max. Shot them in a M1 Grande and the primmers looked good, then shot them in a remington auto and they flattened real bad. I'm thinking head space on the auto. What do ya'll thunk?

My opinion...not necessarily bad headspace in the Remington...just different. You did not say whether the brass was once fired, sized or just pulled out of a box and loaded.

As always more info in tends to get better info out..................

Different rifles will have different max loads. Maybe the garand has a deeper throat. Or a loser chamber.

Could be several things......was the brass full length resized or neck sized?........Were the cases trimmed to minimum length? Was cartridge over all length exceeded or the bullet seated farther out than specified? How many times has the brass been loaded and was the neck thickness checked?

Not knowing the details of how the ammo was loaded it's difficult to tell where the problem might be, or if there is a problem at all...........can you give us more specific information about the load?

All were full sized and trimmed.

Remington semi auto rifles are not known for their tight lock up.....what may be an overload for one rifle (especially the forementioned Remington) may be perfectly suitable for the Garand which is known for its superior lockup.

Different action, different type of gas operation. Different pressure.

Also if the Garand is original millitary, it is likely chambered to field gage. Remington likely chambered with go gage. Tighter chamber, more pressure.

Just my guestimated reply with data provided.
