Hi All,
Thank-ya kindly 308.
TR - Food and lodging are good. The place is clean, comfortable and rustic. Bill, the owner, has shortened his season down some, so they only hunt from Sept to Dec, 1st week. This means he's mostly at capacity, which is 26 in camp (more later). The guides are friendly and the butcher service is really good. He has about 5,000 acres of property and he hunts all of it.
Now...about the game. CWD has done a number on all preserves regarding deer. WH still has really sizable fallow and red deer herd, no sika (at least last year). Also, I didn't see many fallow that were shooters, only maybe 3 or 4, but to be fair, it was pouring rain everyday all day and they were laid up in the greens. Really...all of my rain gear and gore tex was drenched and I ended up wearing polar fleece which was wet and but stayed warm.
I find his animals to range from SCI bronze to silver medal quality. Bill does NOT do well with score requests and won't even discuss them. Again, to be fair, he's kinda of a traditionalist and tries to offer a hunt on a mature animal. No world records. Also, 26 hunters shoot 23 boars and maybe a few deer and such. Most folks do not take more than a hog.
I saw 60 bison, probably the a few more red stag than that, some with descent antler and many hinds. Some goats and sheep and tons of hogs.
If you have interest, I'd go on the 1st or 2nd weekend hunt, or the first Sun - Wed hunt (hunts Thurs-Sun and Sun-Wed). Place gets kinda shot out by Nov. I'm going Nov. 8-11 with my nephew. I'll look for another fallow but, I'll also look for a buckskin TX dall if he has one with >30" of horn after my nephew gets a boar and I get a bison. I'm not too worried about trophies on this hunt.
Found this place for fallow and trying to figure out how to squeeze it between my WH hunt and 2008 Alaska brown bear and moose hunt!
