$185 dollar gas cap seal
« on: September 27, 2005, 07:42:12 PM »
I have a 2002 Dodge 1500 4 door 4x4 with a 360. The "Check Engine" light came on. The dealer said that  I had a fuel pressure leak and that it was the gas cap seal. $145 for the diagnostic, $8 for the seal. a little for the labor, and $185 total with tax.
I said that I'd put it on myself. He said you'll still owe for the diagnostic. I said, "Put it on". That Bites!

I'm not sure if yours is the same or not, but on my 01.5 Dodge 2500 if you cycle the ignition key on/off three times it will give you any codes you have in the digital mileage display box.

If you have a Harbor Freight Tools around they have a code reader for about $39. If not you can probably order from the web site. And one of the parts chains maybe Advance Auto Parts or Auto Zone will check the codes for free.

So they charged you for the diognostics AND the labor???? Wouldnt that be like charging a fella for the 9/16 box end wrench used during an oil change?

$185 for a little seal. Sounds like the great quality we've come to expect from the big 3

Just wait untill those paper thin head gaskets blow out at 36,001 miles.

In 1988 i bought a new 4x4 Ram Charger.........kept it 12 years..........last Dodge i`ll  ever own.  Biggest gas hog there ever was.....from day 1.
I know this started off with a gas cap problem but just thought i`d add my .02 cents.

Or better yet at 75,000 miles when that stoopid plastic oil pump drive shears off and the engine locks up.

My sons Dodge Dakota did the same thing. Only $89.00 for the gas cap.

Where did you see a problem with a Ford, Chevy or GMC brought up in this thread? From what I've read hear we have a problem with a couple Dodge Rams, Dodge Ramcharger, Dodge Dakota, and a Jeep Cherokee. Looks to me like the problem isn't with #1 or #2 but with #3 Daimler Chrysler.
