CZ 452 trigger spring replacement - finished
« on: September 29, 2005, 07:24:11 PM »
I received the trigger spring in the mail today and just got it installed. It really does lighten the trigger pull!!! I don't have a gauge to measure it but I can say that it has to be at least half the weight if not more. My guess is that it is somewhere around 1.5#. There is still a little creep in the trigger but not much. I might end up getting the brooks sleeve kit since I have been told it will correct this and if not, then a new sear will.
This mod will work on all CZ 452's

The first thing I did after removing the stock from the action was use a small punch and tap out the rear trigger pin pictured here. Make sure you take note of the torque on the action screws so that you don't over tighten when you reassemble it (over tightening can throw accuracy off).

After I had the trigger pin out, the trigger assy' was able to drop down to allow the removal of the trigger spring.

I removed the old spring, slid on the new one and it was ready to be put back together. reinstallation was just the opposite of removal. Hold the trigger assy' together and make sure you line the holes up and tap the old pin back into the original spot. I took note which way the pin came out so I would know which end needed to go in first (I don't think it matters but I did anyways)

Here is the difference between the old spring (on the right) and the new spring (on the left)

The picture below shows the trigger adjusting nut. This nut, if adjusted up, will make the pull harder and if adjusted down (toward the trigger) lightens the trigger pull.

I had the rifle out on the range today and it shoots extremely well.  These CZ's never fail to impress me. The 17 HM2 is a fine little cartridge which seems to be much quieter than a 22lr with more range to boot. I think I have found the ultimate squirrel/small game rifle here, very light weight, extreme accuracy and a real joy to shoot. The light weight trigger spring I installed last night is a must have on any 452 IMHO.  The spring is $6 from Brownells so if anyone is interested I will post a link to it.

I used a Dremmel tool with a cut off wheel and cut  1 1/2 loups off the orignal spring  from my CZ Varmint 17 HM2 rifle. Saved a few $s . Reduced the trigger pull to 3 lbs with the adjustment nut turned all the way tward the trigger.

Nice job! Don't ya just love tinkering with your rifles!?!?
If you decide you want it a little lighter then give this spring a try - you won't be sorry. I may go ahead and order that adjustable sear anyways just so I can see what it's all about. Also, the timmey triggers are suppose to be out at the end of the year for these rifles.

Where did you get the spring? Might have been mentioned some where else but if so I missed it. I've still not fired mine yet. Prolly not gonna happen this year.

I got it at Brownells. It works on all 452's in all calibers (even 17HM2).

A guy named Eric Brooks (Brookie over at RFC) put together and marketed a kit for the CZ 452 trigger consisting of 4 springs of varying strength and 2 shims made of brass tubing.  He sells the kits for $9 direct.

http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=106

The shims go over the other pin that holds the trigger stirrup ( the foreward one).  This changes the depth of the trigger/sear engagement reducing creep.  It basicly preloads the trigger.

Be careful how light you make the trigger spring it's all that holds the sear up against the bottom of the striker.  Too light and the striker can "fall off" the sear and fire the rifle when the bolt is closed(voice of experience here).

A person should be able to find a spring for this modification in any decent hardware store.

Cheatermk3,

Thanks for the info. Yeah Brooks has a good website, it is where I found the links to the trigger mods and FAQ that are in the sticky at the top of this forum. According to Brooks website the trigger kit is $14 plus shipping. Is that price not correct? I have talked to people that said they still had creep in the trigger even after this mod and fixed it by changing out the sear to an adjustable one but I have also heard some say that it eliminated all the creep. I used a spring from a bic pen to lighten the trigger on my Marlin and it worked well. If anyone is interested in the Brooks trigger kit then check out the sticky (at the top of the CZ forum) for the link.

I bought 4 of the kits 2 years ago; since that time brookie has marketed his kits out to some distributors.  I think that he must have to advertise them at retail in order not to undercut his distributors.  I bought one direct from him after they were available from Whittaker’s and got it for $9.50 maybe because of my prior dealings with him?  I’ve bought the dovetail-to weaver adapters for my 11mm dovetail also.

I think there are now 3 shims in the kit in stead of the original 2.

The shims work by taking up the “slack” in the factory trigger.  Depending on how the manufacturing tolerances stack up in a particular rifle the shims will have a varying effect on reducing/eliminating creep.  I have 5 452s and only one has benefited from the addition of a shim; it’s the one I shoot from the bench only, my varmint.  The rest either were not safe with the thinnest shim, or did not need a shim.

I have springs in all the rest except for my LH Lux which I haven’t decided yet whether it needs one or not since it will be a field-only, iron-sighted rifle.

Boy this is a old topic isn't it ?  :D

I ordered in a new 22.5" barrel CZ 452 American this week and just finished installing a Ace Hardware # 144 spring a few minutes ago and it was a piece of cake with the close up pictures provided by Simple Man.....thank you Sir !

No trigger gauge so pound wise I'm not sure where the factory pull was vs the newly installed #144 spring but I will say it's a big, big improvement.
