Tracker II barrel on rifle or shotgun frame
« on: September 30, 2005, 03:11:12 PM »
I have 20 ga. Tracker II barrels for both my handi-rifle and shotgun frames. I use the 1900fps Winchester Partition Gold Saboted slugs in the handi rifle frame but am hesitant to do so in the shotgun frame because of the severe recoil verses the Federal Hydra Shoks and Barnes Expanders which I use in the shotgun framed version. My handi-rifle has a 30-30 barrel with it as well. Recoil is pretty mild with the 30-30 round. But those high speed shotgun slugs sure pack a wallop.

What are your thoughts on this?..........Chainsaw

Can't imagine Winchester marketing anything that wouldn't be suitable for contemporary shotguns.

shoot the hot Winchesters out of either one.the shotgun frame is aOK with any slug out there.im going to send my step daughters NEF 20ga shotgun frame in for another 20ga ultraslug barrel.the Winchester slug will be on the list of slugs to try along with the Federal Barnes Expander slug.my 20ga ultraslug shoots the hot Winchester slug very good but i stick with the Federal Barnes Expander

If it's designed to be shot in shotgun barrels, SAAMI requires it to be within the SB1 frame capabilities. SAAMI specs for shotgun cartridges are all below 15kpsi, regardless of the projectile. I'd be willing to bet that the weight of the sabot and 300gr projectile is well below the weight of a 2oz charge of shot which equals over 900grs and is likely to provide considerably more pressure on the frame.
