Another Break In Question
« on: October 01, 2005, 11:42:22 AM »
In response to a previous post, a few of you said that all you do for break in is to shoot.  How long do you let the barrel cool between shots?  How often do you clean the barrel? (10, 20, 30  shots?)

Here is why I ask.  I finally got a chance to shoot my new 7mm-08 barrel today.  After about 10-12 shots, it (or maybe it was me) starting shooting pretty good.  I actually had one group that I could cover with a penny.  It was still shooting to the left, so I made my adjustments, and haven't had a group less than 2 inches since.  I forgot to take my cleaning kit, and I was getting frustrated so I headed for the house.  The scope seems ok (everything is tight) and I  waited 3-5 minutes between shots to let the barrel (and myself) cool down.  Could it be that this barrel is that finicky and needs to be cleaned, or something else?  I've never had this problem before.  I am however optimistic after the one good group it did give.  Thanks for any help.

You may need to let the barrel cool down a little more. Also you might of just started shooting off a little. When I see my groups going away I stop and try another day. If the gun is on, I know it was just me getting tired.  :D

I am new to Encores, so this may sound stupid.  Last night when I was cleaning my gun, I noticed that the forearm was "shifted" to the left.  In other words, the barrel was touching the right side of the forearm, but there was a gap on the left side.  Would this adversely affect accuracy?  If so, how should I correct the problem?
