Handgun scope - which one ?
« on: October 03, 2005, 02:22:07 AM »
What scope should I place on my Encore pistol (454).
Looked at Leupold, but apparently they do not make a 1.5x - 4x.
Looking for another manufacturer (qaulity scope).

Thanks for any advice.

Burris is very good, I'm trying a Simmons 4x on my Encore 15" 460 S&W. So far so good.

I am an avid Leupold man, but in the handgun scopes, I like the Bushnell scopes. I have one on my FA 454 Casull and one on my S&W460MAG.  :D

I think I`ve got Leupolds on all of my guns but 1, that`s an old Lyman All American that I just haven`t taken off yet. I`ve owned 2 Burrius scopes. Both variable handgun scopes and both were junk. I`ve been shooting scoped guns since the mid 1960`s and have had trouble with abt every brand I`ve owned except Leupold. At present I have abt 30 Leupold scopes. One of them was on a gun that was destoryed in a car wreck, it look bad, but still functions like a new one. Get a Leupold.
As for what to get, a 2x is probibly all you will be able to shoot well off handed. If you need more than 2x Leupold make a very nice 2 1/2 x 8 EER. I own 2 of them and they are a great scope, but when I go over 4x I`m shooting from a very good rest. If this is your first handgun scope I would recomand a 2x. Scoped handguns are all together different than scoped rifles and it takes some practice to just find your target in them.

For a 454 I would opt for a fixed power scope.  Leupold or Burris.

I had a Burris 3X9X32 on my Encore in 30-06. I found it to blackout as the Leupolds do. I think you should look at the Bushnell handgun scopes. You will be amazed.  :D

I have 2-7X 32mm Burris handgun scopes on 3 .44 mag. revolvers, 2 .357 revolvers, a .50 AE Desert Eagle, a .30-30 T/C Contender and a 3-12X 32mm Burris on my .223 Rem. Weatherby AccuMark handgun not to mention on many of my rimfire/centerfire rifles.  I have never had any problems of any kind with Burris optics.  I have found Burris to be the equal of Leupold, only a bit lower in cost.  As far as Bushnell goes after my last two Bushnell purchases I have no faith or trust in them.  As far as I am concerned they are no better than the POS Tasco’s that Bushnell bought out of bankruptcy.  Thanks for the suggestion anyway.   :D   Lawdog

My next scopes on any of my guns are going to be either Bushnell or
Burris. If they fail then I may go leupold.

Most people know I am a loyal Leupold fan, but I have to admit, I like the Bushnell handgun scopes. I have owned almost all the handgun scopes and have always gone back to the Bushnells for handguns. Now where my rifles are concerned, Leupold's all the way.  :D

Only scope I've ever had fail was a Burris 2-7X on a 44 Mag TC Contender.
It only lasted 10 shots.

Ditto that. I have an Ultra Four Dot on my 629 right now but, I can hear a Leupold M8-2 calling my name. No more batteries to change out or go dead, or knobs to forget to turn before shooting? I love the Ultra (shooter can see the dot even in a darkened timber) but, red dots haven't come as far as I'd hoped when buying this scope.
