sent the 30-30 back to NEF and scope mounting questions

I sent my 30-30 back to NEF for repair.  The transfer bar was missing.  I bought this rifle new and never fired a shot.  Hopefully they can get this one fixed before deer season.  What height rings do you guys use on your handi-rifles?  I was thinking about using high rings because of the hammer.

That is a major bummer :( Things like this do not bulid confidence, and don't help NEF"s reputation. You're right, high rings and the hammer extension helps a lot too. You can get one form NEF or Uncle Mikes makes one as well.

Ah, but it isn't just clearing the hammer that is the problem.  I just took Quick or Mac's advice from a year ago about using higher rings to get a more consistent hold.  My problem was that the stock just doesn't fit me.  I have an awesome 223 barrel with a Simmons ATV but when I shoot I have to hold the bottom of the butt against my collarbone (had part of the collarbone removed in a shoulder surgery so my right shoulder is lower than my left, don't ask).  The point is that a long eyerelief shotgun scope (Simmons 2.5x20) on my 44 barrel with Med rings doesn't bother me.  The ATV scope with High rings on the 223 just doesn't line up.  Putting Extra High rings on the scope looks goofier, but it is more comfortable.

You may have to tinker a little is my point.
