Typical mortar cannon shooting distance?
« on: October 05, 2005, 08:11:38 AM »
What is the typical distance folks shoot their mortar cannons at cannon shoot competitions through out the country? I'm trying to build a seamless steel barrel ( like a bowling ball mortar)  that will safely shoot 13 inch hollow aluminum cannon balls and in order to figure out the thickness/strength of the barrel needed I need to know how far mortars are usually shot in competition.I've only had the privilage of attending one shoot. I'm hoping that once I know the typical distance shot I can figure the amount of powder needed to throw such a ball and then figure out how strong/thick the walls need to be on the barrel. Any help will be much appreciated.
