I haven't used the 30-30 in a long time. Have premium hunting bullets made it a better cartridge in lever action? Can you give me an example of some bullets that work particularly well in a tubular magazined 30-30 carbine? This is for big whitetails.

30WCF veloceties are generally so low a premium bullet may not be much of an advantage. In fact, it might actually be better to just use a Core Lok't or Power Point. These bullets will hold together pretty well in a whitetail and still expand effectively. IIRC Starfire makes a solid copper 150 grain hollowpoint that is supposed to work really well too. I still think a plain production bullet is about as good as you can get for whitetails in a 30WCF though.

Any 170 grain "made for .30-30" bullet is jist perfect for any use you'll put it to. Don't get no better. Iffen ya jist gotta go lighter the 150s do fine on deer. Premiums for the 30-30? Kinda silly waste of time and money.

Generally speaking, the normal ol' paper-patch pure lead bullet works just fine in the .30-30. But ifn ya want a premium bullet get one of those modern marvels with the copper jacket.

Seriously, they perfected the .30-30 technology decades ago. And a soft cored, copper jacketed bullet is probably the best for it. It wasn't until the flatlanders from the big cities started to complain because they couldn't get within 200 yards that they had to invent the super-fast cartridges. But then they wasn't happy with the way the bullets performed at those velocities. So next they invented the premium bullet.

I've heard that some of those high-dollar rounds go "Ka-CHING!" instead of "Ka-BOOM".

The Nosler Partition 30 cal 170 grain round nose bullet would be some insurance for stuff bigger than deer in the 30-30.

seen truckloads of deer that were shot with rem corelocks and never seen where the bullet was lacking

Barns makes a 150 gr. X bullet for the 30-30. I use it for big boar where the plate could pose a problem for softer lead bullets. The nice thing about them is they dont deform at the tip from loading and unloading alot in a hunting gun.
