Heaviest mold for .429" bullets????
« on: December 01, 2002, 01:45:06 PM »
I'm interested in looking for a mold of over 300 grains in .44 caliber.  Anybody know of molds greater than 300 grains?

TIA! :)

The RCBS SWC with GC that I buy from Dry Creek is casting out with check at 313 grains.  Shoots great.  I'm thinking of buying the mold now that I know that my gun likes them so well.  Over 21.5 grains of W296, I'm getting 1430 fps with my 10.5" Super Blackhawk.

I have a 340 grain lfn gas check mold from ballistic cast. It has two crimp groves one for the .44 and one for the .444. With it I have taken two whitetail with my .44 and my buddy has shot two caribou with his .444 marlin. It is a very accurate and performs excellent on game all shots gave complete penetration.

I was looking for something for the .44 and hopefully for a future .444, now I have a couple of places to start looking!

Much appreciated! :)

Have been using a LEE .430 310 gr RNFP GC for several years.  Bullets actually weigh 316 gr.  Cast of wheelweights and tempered, it shoots great in my 10" Contender over a max load of H 110, and when cast of pure lead (and minus the GC) and used in Harvester sabots (over 90 gr 3F in my .50 cal) makes a heck of an effective muzzle loader projectile for deer.  Have taken four deer with it (all one shot kills), and have yet to recover a bullet.  My son's Ruger SBH likes it when scoped, but doesn't have enough elevation ajustment in rear sight to shoot with open sights (needs taller front sight).
Careful is a naked man climbin' a bobwire fence.
