Just ordered a CZ550 Safari magnum in 416 Rigby
« on: October 06, 2005, 04:50:32 PM »
Just ordered a CZ550 Safari magnum in 416 Rigby. Does anyone have experience with this gun and round. I thought I would give it a try. I currently have a 416 Rigby in my Encore and I love the performance of the 416 Rigby. I sold my Sako 375 H&H and wanted another Big bore.

Thanks :D

Did you get one with an American style stock or one with the European hump back?  8)

Saw a new one just like you ordered last week at a sporting gooods outlet callled Scheels.  It was the humpback style in 416 Rigby.  Looked and felt sweet.  I really like it and want al three. 375 h&h 416 and 458.  Keep us updated on how you like it.  Have you seen the leather safari gun cases you can get for it??  They are really neat, they are on the website.

Redhawk1, from what I have gathered, those humpbacked stocks are dimensioned for iron sights, which are still very popular in Europe. So it would appear that if you are going to scope it, a low mounted (ie smaller objective lense), lower power scope is called for. This bucks the American trend of high power, huge objective scopes, but it work very well when the shooting has to be quick. I'm sure you can find a good Leupold to work with this gun.  :-)

Hey, that's the scope I have on my .375! I think it just might work for you too.

Ramrod, the Leupold VaraXIII 1.5X5X20mm is a great scope in my opinion.

I got one of these with an American stock last year. Had it glass bedded and pillars installed as several on this site claimed they shattered the stock ( the humpback type) in less than a box of shells. I checked with CZ. They inferred that IF there ever was a "problem" with the European stock, that it was resolved in the American version. Whatever. Suggest you look into the situation yourself, as strengthening that stock was pricy and only a little less than getting a new stock ( if one had to be gotten!). 8)

I will look into that, but I will be shooting the rifle a lot when I get it. If I do have a problem, I will send it back to CZ.  :D
