Mag primers? HMMM? Wonder if that might solve some of the accuracy problems with 243wssm? Be worth trying. It's about the only thing I haven't tried.
Thanks

When I ordered my .223 WSSM, when it was first introduced, I talked to a number of other .223 WSSM shooters and they all agreed that they were getting inconsistent ignition/burning.  So I never really tried standard large rifle primers.  I went to large rifle magnum primers and never had the problem of inconsistent ignition/burning.  It only made sense as you are packing all that powder into a short but wide column.  It’s worked so far in both my .223 and .25 WSSM’s.  Lawdog

Lawdog,

Thanks for the info on this one. I just happen to have some empty cases at home. I'll give it a try and get back with ya.

Lawdog,

We went to the range this past weekend and took the 243wssm with us. My son, the Marine, has decided that this rifle barrel and action would look best wrapped around a post that supports the roof covering our shooting benches.  I tried the Mag primers behind all loads to no avail. 2" groups at best. If this wasn't MAMA's rifle, I'd be helping him with the wrapping! It does have a pretty piece of wood for a stock though. But if it don't shoot, its only good for  kindling.

Curious, but if you will, what make and model is that .243 WSSM of yours?  Lawdog

It's a Browning A-bolt Micro hunter. Its been back to them once already. They sent a target back that was 3 shots touching.Nothing to say how far off it was shot, but there weren't any powder burns on the paper. I can replicate their group at 25 yds but further out it just ain't there. Oh yeah, this group was supposedly shot with 100gr factory ammo. I even went and bought another box of the same kind and still no joy!

huntswithdogs,

I have never thought very much about those thin, light barrels on the Micro Hunters.  Both my .223 & .25 WSSM's are M70 Coyotes as is the one my Daughter in-law uses.  A member of our club has a Micro Hunter in .243 Win. and he has problems with groups unless he lets the barrel cool for at least a minute or more between shots.  I just looked and I see Browning isn’t listing the WSSM cartridges in the Micro Hunter now.  They show the WSSM’s in their A-Bolt Varmint Stalker.  If it was me I would call Browning and talk to one of their technicians and see how long they were waiting between shots to get the group they sent you.  Let me know what you do as I agre that you should be getting better groups than you are getting.  Lawdog

was just wandering how everybody's .223wssm performed with factory ammo for those of us that don't reload yet. and do you think your gun shot one better than the other when comparing the 55 gr. to the64 gr. bullet?

Excellent question but one I can't help you with.  I have never bought or fired a factory loaded round for my .223 WSSM.  Guess I should one of these days, just to see how they work.  Lawdog
