History Question #5

This old time trapper was a Michigan State trapper who eventually moved to Texas and on to California. He had a house-trailer he pulled behind his truck with lettering " His name- Master Trapper, Personal instructions, Lures and Baits For Sale." This trapper also wrote two trapping books and contributed regularly to the F-F-G and old Trappers World magazines. Ace

Yes RdFx, J.E. claimed in magazine articles that he would actually crawl right into timber wolf dens with his .38 revolver and bring out the Mother wolf and her pups. I personally remember this trapper and his Brother O. who was also an accomplished trapper. Ace

J.E. was quite a woodcarver too. He was a friend of fellow Californian John Parker, one of the founders of the FTA. Both men relied heavily on dogs to find their sets for them. J. E.'s brother O, I believe, lived in Oregon.

J had a trapping and wood carving museum in California for years before his passing. I heard that the feature wood carving was a huge carved statue of himself with a trap in hand. J's relatives still live 30 miles East of me at Gould City. Those passing through will see a bar and restuarant named E's??? Corner where they display old photographs of their noted relative. J. & O. used to stop by and visit with my Dad everytime they returned from CA for a visit at Gould City. Ace

Im going to go ahead with another History question which i hope will be easier for some of the trappers out there.... Dont give up on this question... come trappers out there. A few of us know the answer but we want you to explore trapping history, ask us some questions. What you do know is:

C'mom yottey, coyotero, someone take a shot at this one. This famous trappers name is mentioned often on the forums. I'll even offer the first name and number of letters in his last name "John E--" Slim Pederson wrote a while back that he learned to trap from both my Dad and John E-- My Dad always called him Johnny E so don't know if Johnny was his real full name or just John. Got it skidway, I knew someone had to have heard of John Ehn! Just for the record, i've heard people pronounce Ehn as "N" but actually it pronounced "Eane" or "Eeeennnne."
