Ultra Varmint Fluted Questions:
« on: October 09, 2005, 02:10:34 AM »
Hi, new member here.  :D I ordered the Ultra Varmint Fluted rifle the other day in .223. The only other H&R I have is the .22 Hornet which I absolutely love! I used to have the .22 Magnum in Ultra Varmint but sold it, wished I hadn't. Anyway, for those of you that have the .223 can you tell me a little about how it shot out of the box. Do you handload for it? Do you have any disappointments with it? Thanks for your relies.

I haven't handloaded yet, but mine shot less than an inch right out of the box, my 204 fluted did even better. Used the Wally World Winchster 45  grain white box varmit rounds in the 223.

CH223

Welcome , I have the 223 HB and i was getting MOA out of the box with win. white box ammo.

You will have to do a few things to get it to shoot better .

1 clean it very well

2 remove the scope mount , clean the screw holes and re-mount the rail with some loc-tite on the screws

3 polish the chamber to get all the gunk and sharp edges out .

Check the sticky on cleaning and hand lapping for full details , This should get you well below MOA with your rifle.

Good luck with the new rifle and again welcome aboard.
