Shot the 445 Super Mag today.
« on: October 09, 2005, 04:18:32 PM »
Digger called me up and said he had some rounds loaded up for me to try out so we took off about 3:30 for some shooting and hog hunting.
Got to the redneck shooting range and set up a target. Started off with the 270 gr. Gold Dot bullets over 31gr. W-296. Not so good. No real consistency to the groups. Maybe a couple together and one off the paper.  Next were the Hornady 265 grainers over the samne load of powder. Good shooting load. From about 65 yards I managed a 1 1/2" group off of Digger's Geo Tracker hood (about a 45 degree slant) and one bag under the foreend. I'm using a Bushnell 1.5-4.5x32 shotgun scope. I think these will be the load for mine. We're guessing them to be humming along at about 1950 to 2000 fps and will get one thru the chrony soon to see for sure. I'll get a 100 yard report some time this week I hope. It's archery season here too so that report may have to be put on hold.
Saw a bobcat at about 80 yards and a doe at about 40 this evening but no hogs. Not surprised tho........they never come out when we go hunting together.  :)

I NEEEEEEDDDDD to buy some brass and give mine a try ... I have everything but brass.

Just short of money right now as I am buying a new house.

I did shoot it with 44mag loads a few weeks ago.  Accuracy is unchanged

Speer is .429 dia and the hornady's are .430 dia.

Slug your bore and you may find something better to fit the bore diameter.  These 44's can be amazingly accurate if the bullet fits the bore you were given.

We actually talked about the different diameters of the two bullets and concluded that it was probably the culprit. I'll slug it soon.................after season that is.    Gonna find a load that works and stick with it for now. The 300gr. XTP's are also a .430 bullet and I think we're planning to try some of them try them next.
