Need scope rings for new barrells please post opinions
« on: October 10, 2005, 07:31:25 AM »
I will be receiving my new 20 ga rifled slug barrell and 45-70 barrell soon and will be scoping both of them.  Does anyone use redfield mounts on their handy rifles?  I have burris zee rings on my other barrells but I heard the redfield mounts are identical to leupold mounts and I know leupold are high quality.  Basically I am trying to keep the cost down so I am looking for a good inexpensive set of medium height weaver type mounts.  Please chime in with any suggestions.

I like the Millet Angle Loc Rings but some here do not. If you like Leupold why not try the Leupold "Rifleman" rings available at Wal Mart for about $17, or so I have read here on other threads...Best of luck....<><....

Also what would be the better mount a weaver standard or the 4x4 mount.

There are some things to scrimp on...good rings and good scopes aren't 2 of them I would ...bite the bullet...pick up some Leupolds steel rings(weaver style) in the end you'll be glad you did...if Leupolds are to expensive...check out the rings made by Warne...

I use the Luepold Rifleman, weaver style mounts on my Handis

I have one other gun with weaver style scope rail, I use Weaver 4x4 rings - I like these rings for a weaver style attachment.

Without a doubt, avoid the ring style that is essentialy a band, that is tightened on one side only.  As you tighten it, it tends to roll the scope, and getting the reticles level is a major PITA.

Also, all of my mounts are lapped first.  I dont know how much it helps, but never have I noticed the both bottom surfaces were true without the lapping.
